My unique and colourful patterns are created by collecting motifs and ideas from the world around me.
I am constantly inspired by nature and architecture and I love to combine the shapes, colours and stories I find in these places.
Here are some photos that have recently inspired and influenced my pattern designs.
Once I have some motifs and a vague idea of a pattern forming in my mind, I will start to sketch. This first sketch will be an evolving pattern as I explore the best composition of my motifs, changing the layout and adding detail as I go.
I will use brush pens to add colour to this sketch, again adding different colours across the page until I settle on a colour palette that I think works best together and with the feeling of the pattern I initially set out to create.
With line work and colour choices made, I can now start the final artwork! This is my favourite bit, because most of the decisions about the design have been made and now I can really concentrate on getting the details right.
I create a line drawing of the pattern and separate pages of watercolour textures in the colours I have chosen for this pattern’s palette. I will scan these all into the computer and combine them digitally.
And then I have a finished pattern which I can apply to the range of note cards I sell and experiment with using the pattern on other products.
